So you've found out just how
wonderful we are and that the technology is
just great, but how do you actually upload
and down load your data.
rSync is the preferred
method of transfer as it is easily the
quickest way to transfer information, and
then keep it synchronised so that your
updates are incremental, rather than fresh
each time.
The advantage to you is that you will
use less bandwidth each backup, but more
importantly, the server will not be running
an intensive backup process thus slowing the
unit down.
CwrSync is the Windows port of rSync. It
will perform all of the usual rSync features
just on the Windows platform.
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) & SFTP
(Simple File Transfer Protocol) are amogst
the widest support and commonly understood
transfer methods.
There are a wide array of free and paid
FTP clients around from the complicated to
the painfully simple.
SSH (Secure Shell) & SCP (Secure Copy)
are both supported in a limited form
allowing for the popular use of the wget
commands and the like for those that prefer
to use a command based environment.
Webdrive from South River technologies
provides you with the means to literally
mount your backup space as a drive letter on
a Windows based machine so you can drag and
drop what you are looking to transfer as
though it was a drive on your machine. We
also support the NetDrive software from
Novell Networks.
NB: Please be
aware that we do not provide licenses for
any of the paid software that you may choose
to use.
