The hardware we run is
something a little bit different, as it is
array based rather than a traditional server
as most people would know it. |
| |
|
| |
So what is an
array? |
 |
| |
An array, or disk array to
be more exact is literally what it says, a
grouping of disks which in turn is connected
to a controller which performs a variety of
tasks such as data virtualisation and
caching of data for improved performance. An
example of a disk array is shown to the
right. |
| |
What are the
specifications of the servers? |
| |
We have not got a 'standard'
server but the typical server would be
equivalent to: |
| |
- 10TB (Terabytes equal roughly
1000GB) storage
- 4GB ECC protected RAM
- RAID-6 (Double parity)
- Dual Opteron Processors
|
| |
What about
the Network Connections? |
| |
Its no good having a fancy
server if nobody can connect to it, so as a
result heavy investment has gone into
getting access to your data quickly via
quality connections. |
| |
Each cabinet has its own
Gigabit Fiber hand-off provided by
Voxel
meaning that there is always a quick, easy
connection to your data. |
